A lovestruck man expresses his true feelings through karaoke

lyrics

Serenading Sarah

Words and music by David Michael King ©2011 (BMI)

They were singing karaoke, “Sweet Caroline”
But Sarah was the only girl on my mind
Dreaming ‘bout the day I’d hold her in my arms
And then to my surprise, she walked in the bar
I was so shy, I couldn’t look her way
But something strange was happening to me that day
Maybe it’s the wine, I guess I’ll never know
I jumped up on the stage and grabbed the microphone

I started Serenading Sarah
Singing sweetly with the flair of
Marvin Gaye and Bobby Darin
I could be so smooth
I knew that I could never bear a-
Nother day until I’d tell her,
“Oh Sarah, I love you”

I tried out all those moves that I saw on TV
Swaying my hips, falling to my knees
My voice was growing stronger, I could feel the song rise
I lifted one hand and I closed my eyes
The crowd was yelling louder, cheering me on
But she’s the only reason I was singing that song
She barely knew my name, but when I was through
My voice was so tender she would love me too

I was Serenading Sarah
Singing sweetly with the flair of
Marvin Gaye and Bobby Darin
I could sound so smooth
I knew that I could never bear a-
Nother day until I’d tell her
“Oh Sarah, I love you”

She knew my secret, I’d been set free
I knew she was out there waiting for me
I turned around but something was wrong
She left the ladies room where she’d been all along

I never serenaded Sarah
Even though I had the flair of
Marvin Gaye and Bobby Darin
I was such a fool
I guess that I will have to bear a-
Nother day until I tell her
“Oh Sarah, I love you.”
